iQOO Z9s Professional first impressions

iQOO has expanded its Z9 series offerings in India with two new additions. We were invited to a media briefing in Baku, Azerbaijan last month, where we arrived. Now that the highly anticipated smartphone has officially been launched, let’s take a closer look at its key features and capabilities.

The iQOO Z9s Pro is packaged with a sleek black casing, a protective case, a SIM ejector tool, a charging cord, and an 80W fast charger for effortless power replenishment.

The iQOO Z9s Professional boasts a stunning 6.77-inch curved AMOLED display with a crisp 2,392 x 1,080 pixel resolution, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and an impressive 4,500-nit native peak brightness for exceptional visuals. Equipped with HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG codecs, the device also features Widevine L1 certification for seamless 1080p video streaming on compatible applications.

The Z9S’s professional-grade display features Schott Xensation glass protection, enabling superior Moist Contact performance. The smartphone potentially displays an impressive 1.07 billion colours, boasting a centrally positioned punch-hole that houses a 16MP selfie camera, equipped with Samsung’s S5K3P9SP04-FGX9 sensor.

The show also features a fingerprint scanner, which performed seamlessly during our testing. Despite this, it should have been situated just a notch higher for effortless accessibility.

Across the rear, we feature a squircle-shaped digital camera island, which houses a circular flash unit and two functional cameras – a 50-megapixel main sensor (Sony IMX882 with optical image stabilization) and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor (OmniVision OV08D10-GA5A-001A, boasting a 120-degree field of view).

Obtaining the Luxe Marble model revealed a striking feature: a marble-inspired finish adorns its rear cover, readily apparent from a cursory glance at the product’s identification. Manufactured from plastic, it exhibits a surprisingly glass-like texture.

What sets this striking mannequin apart from others in the Z collection is its flamboyant orange hue, paired with a bold yet sustainable vegan leather backing, marking a first for the entire series? While weighing in at 190g, this product boasts a 5g advantage over the Luxe Marble mannequin, but its real strength lies in its enhanced grip. Irrespective of the nuances, every iteration possesses a quantifiable IP64 score.

The iQOO Z9s Professional features a functional button and volume rocker on its right-hand side, accompanied by a USB-C port on the rear. Surrounded by the SIM card slot, main microphone, and speaker grille, this section of the device takes center stage. Positioned strategically above, the secondary microphone awaits its next assignment. The smartphone features a stereo audio system, but noticeably lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. Although the device features Hi-Res Audio support for earphones, it also includes.

Beneath its sleek exterior, the iQOO Z9s Professional packs a punch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, complemented by up to 12GB of RAM and an expansive 256GB storage capacity. The device comes with Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14 installed straight from the box. Although iQOO has pledged to provide two years of Android version upgrades and three years of security updates, it remains unclear how frequently these updates will be rolled out.
